Research and Insights
Evidence sits behind everything I do. Research into lived experience, identity, belonging and intersectionality shapes how I think, how I work and what I bring into every engagement. Not assumption. Not received wisdom. Data. Primary research. Real voices.
Data is Queen. Let her speak.
This page brings together that research, the podcast archive and the ongoing studies.
Women in Transport Sector Whitepapers
Three white papers on the workforce challenges that organisations are still not addressing well enough. Each one is grounded in research, developed in partnership with Women in Transport and leading industry organisations across transport, logistics and infrastructure.
Navigating Generational Change
For the first time in history there are up to six generations working side by side. This paper examines what that means in practice for communication, culture, leadership and retention, and what organisations need to do differently as a result. In partnership with the Road Haulage Association.
Navigating Menopause at Work
Menopause affects half the workforce and remains one of the least addressed issues in organisational life. This paper examines the impact on performance, retention and wellbeing and what meaningful support actually looks like. In partnership with PA Consulting.
Navigating Parenthood
The motherhood penalty is real, documented and still largely unaddressed. This paper examines the experience of parents in the workplace, the structural barriers that persist and what organisations can do to close the gap. In partnership with Kier Group.
The Women in Transport Podcast
I hosted The Women in Transport Podcast for 3 seasons, bringing together voices from across the transport and infrastructure sector to explore leadership, culture, inclusion and lived experience. All three seasons are available to listen to now.
Shaping Future Research
I am conducting independent research into lived experience, identity and belonging. The studies below are live and open for participation. If you are willing to share your experience, your contribution will directly inform future published work.
Experiences of Otherness
This study explores women's experiences of otherness. Moments of feeling unseen, excluded or positioned on the margins, whether at work or in wider society. It examines how power, identity and belonging are experienced and navigated through lived experience. The insights gathered will inform a forthcoming book.
Who can take part: women willing to reflect honestly on their experiences. Participation can be anonymous.
Divorce, Separation & Beginning Again
This study explores the lived experience of divorce or separation, focusing on identity, stability and what it means to begin again after a significant personal rupture. It examines the emotional, practical and psychological shifts that follow and how people rebuild a sense of self, certainty and direction. The insights gathered will inform a forthcoming book.
Who can take part: women who have experienced divorce or separation. Participation can be anonymous.
Frequently Asked Questions
Most organisations diagnose engagement problems through instinct or assumption. What they get back is noise. Data cuts through that. It surfaces what is actually happening, where the friction is, who is carrying it and why. Without it, interventions are guesswork dressed up as strategy. Every piece of work I do starts with understanding what the evidence is saying before deciding what to do about it.Why does data matter in behaviour and engagement work?
Intersectionality recognises that people's experiences are shaped by multiple overlapping identities including gender, race, age, class and caring responsibilities. In workforce research this matters because the data looks very different depending on who you are asking and what their lived experience is. Flattening that complexity produces findings that are technically accurate but practically useless. My research tries to hold that complexity rather than smooth it over. What is intersectionality and why does it feature in your research?
Yes. The white papers are available to download and reference freely. If you want to discuss how the findings apply to your specific organisation or workforce, get in touch. That conversation often leads somewhere useful. Can organisations use your research findings in their own work?
Yes. If you are an organisation with a workforce challenge that needs proper investigation, or a partner interested in commissioning original research, I would like to hear from you. Get in touch to start the conversation. Can I commission research or collaborate with you on a study?
How can I take part in the ongoing research?
Both studies are open and the links are above. Participation is voluntary and can be anonymous. If you have questions about either study before taking part, get in touch directly.Yes. Further white papers and studies are planned. If you want to be notified when new research is published, the Writing and Insights section of this page will be the place to subscribe when it launches. Will there be more research published?
Research informs everything. When I work with an organisation I am not applying a generic framework. I am drawing on primary research, published evidence and the specific data from within their context to understand what is driving behaviour and what needs to change. The white papers, the ongoing studies and the thinking behind them all feed directly into how I work with clients. How do you use research in your consultancy work?
